Meeting called to Order @7.05p.m.

1.      The Crime Prevention and Safety Committee Meetings are to be held on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month.

2.      Video Cameras – A member called Crime and Security in London, Ontario about Video Cameras at downtown intersection, but never received  a call back. We will look at  successful  video  programs in other municipalities and get more statistics.

3.      Sale of Drug Paraphernalia in downtown stores -  there may be a need for a by-law change so paraphernalia is not visually displayed.   A member will contact Jeff Lehman to see what he would recommend.

4.       Super Jail Offenders released in Barrie -  The Committee would like to find out  how other communities such as  Lindsay and Peterborough handle the problem. We need to know what the negative influence Penetang has on prisoners being dropped off.

5.      The Committee may have to link with the BIA on some of these larger issues.   Some members will be attending upcoming meetings,

6.      Downtown Crime Report

The report was distributed and reviewed.    The Bars are  responsible for any incidents that take place in front of their buildings, if the patrons have left that bar.  Barrie Police have hired 10 new officers this year, 4 for the Downtown area.

The Committee requested that Barrie Police Services  provide a report on the impact of   released persons being dropped off  at the Maple Street Bus Station.  We would  also like to know from the Salvation Army and the Busby Centre, if they have statistics to show who stay in town or leave town and how many use the Bail Bonds program.

7.      The Committee agreed to sponsor a Neighbourhood Watch  Information Meeting.

This is a crime prevention  program which trains neighbours interested in participating in

this program .  London, Ontario  has a Neighbourhood Watch Program  that can be
            viewed

            Power Stream to see if
they will  insert notices in the monthly bill.
