City wants over-serving addressed

BARRIE - A letter will be sent to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) on behalf of the city to express the city’s concern regarding the impact of over-serving in licenced establishments downtown, to request additional enforcement of licencing violations.

City staff will also investigate alternatives related to the review of future liquor licence applications, including the merit of establishing a liquor licence review committee, similar to that in Kitchener, and report back to general committee on the implications associated with any proposed change to the processing of liquor licences.

In an approved amendment to the motion proposed by Ward 2 Coun. Jeff Lehman and adjusted by Ward 5 Coun. Lynn Strachan, council agreed to invite key stakeholders to meet at their earliest convenience to form a working group to discuss enforcement issues and negative impact, and then report back to general committee.
