There is another meeting about the future of Central Collegiate, and we should all be concerned. If Central is closed there will be many side affects, namely
-the economic impact on the already staggering downtown core
-the students from Central will have to be re-located to other schools throughout the area, schools which are already operating with an unusual numbers of portables. Students already attending those schools will be pushed to other schools. The chain reaction caused by closing Central will be felt throughout Simcoe county by a great many students, and will entail considerable additional bus transport, inconvenience to students and parents.
-why do we have to lose a facility like Fischer Auditorium, and what will replace it?
These are just some of the questions that I ask myself:
-if we can spend 2.+ million on boilers in Midland/Penetanguishene why can't we spend it here on Central.
-if, in 2008, there was a plan to build on the sports field (Red Storey field), what happened to that plan.
-if Prince of Wales was to be used as a fall-back, what's changed?
These are my questions. I'm sure you all have questions of your own. now is the time to voice those questions, and to seek answers. Please call or email your Trustee prior to the ARC meeting on Jan 25. Please encourage your friends and neighbours to do the same. We can only prevail by presenting a united and vocal front. A contact list for the Trustees is attached.
